THREE CROSSES

Paucartambo is located in the Quechua zone over the Vilcanota mountain
range at 2800 msnm towards
the eastern part of Cusco. Paucartambo translated into Spanish means
Paucar (Inca) and Tambo (lodging). During the time of the Inca
Paucartambo was used by travellers as a place to stay for people who
came from different parts of Tahuantinsuyo here visitors exchanged with
the locals coca leafs and Chalona a type of dehydrated meat coming from
the plateaus.

ARCHITECTURE
Paucartambo
is a town characterized by Spanish architectural construction of the XVI
century. The buildings were constructed during the period of king Carlos
III. A live manifestation of this period is the colonial bridge of
Paucartambo. Another characterization of this bridge is that its was
constructed over an Inca bridge that was already in place. Paucartambo
with it's calm and cozy atmosphere is located between 2 rivers. The
architecture had special characteristcs. Walls were painted with an off
white tone and doors typically blue and like any small town in Perú,
narrow streets were paved with beautiful stone. This style also
gave the main plazas a better panoramic view and the three corners
of the plaza were usually surrounded by trees wich motivated travellers
to visit the towns.
ACCANACUY
is a traditional festival that celebrates offerings to the sun or tayta.
The celebration takes place in the mountain Apu Cahuacñahui.
MONTAÑA
APU CAHUACÑAHUI
This
sacred mountain was and it is the connecting point between the Andean
mountains and tropical Amazon jungle. Once again, the celebration
consists of payment to the earth Pacha Mama with Chicha the drink made
of corn and used by the Inca for ceremonies. The Inca also believe that
no events were casual except ones that were spiritual and mystic. In our
calendar, the zodiacal ribbon changes signs from the 21rst of the month
to the 20th of the next and in the winter season when the sun is
furthest from the earth it motivated Andean men to give mystical
ceremonies giving thanks to the god Inti Tayta or father Sun. The
ceremonie takes place on the 21rst of the month. The festival is
celebrated only by the Incas that still live Q´eros and Huallas alike
offering presents of gratitude to the Sun for benefits recived. The
person in charge of making this offerings is the Curaca Acullaq
accompanied by all in the nation, the ceremony starts at 3:00 a.m.
untill 4:00a.m.
THE VIRGEN
CARMEN : Students
relate theories about the Virgen Carmen. They say that in the XVII
century were sent from Spain two images of the Virgen. One
for Cusco Paucartambo and the other for Paucarqolla in Puno. The problem
wich took place was that one of the satues was more beautiful than the
other and caused displeasure they got tired and gave up their protests.
From that point the dance of the Qollas arose. Another story tells that
in Kosñipata Valley there was a statue of Virgen del Carmen carved in
wood. This statue was taken every year to Pucartambo untill one day
local natives reveled and destroyed all the houses in the village, they
also destroyed the statue. The statue was the taken from there and
thrown into the river Amaru Mayu or Serpent river and remained afloat
untill it was rescued by members of the church in Paucartambo. Now days,
the dance of Chunchos offers the statue special gifts.

NINAMARCA
:
CHULLPAS OR WARI CULTURE CEMETARYS (Wari
empire) Wari
was the first name of the Andean empires capital. The difference between
the Wari culture and Chavin was that they not only conquered and
taught their religion and art they were also a military centers and some
of this centers were located in Pikillacta closest to Cusco
Cajamarqilla, they conquered making the conquered follow their beliefs.
This took place about the years 700 - 1100.
Waris influenced art, technology and
architecture wich was to be seen in all areas of Perú. When they
conquered other cultures, they prohibited any of their enemies to
practice exisisting traditions. Eventually, the Wari's were defeated and
their on culture vanished.
HUATOCTO
Huatocto
is located 2600 msnm in the province of Paucartambo and 10 minutes from
the town of Paucartambo between two rivers. The rivers mapacho and
Huatocto are located in a small canyon in the Vilcanota mountain range.
The archaeological center of Huatocto presents the Imperial
architecture built with pizarra rock as it rests over solid stones or
double janba and distributed in two marked sectors of urban Inca
